Mayor Oh Se-hoon has outlined his 4-year roadmap for economic development.

It involves creating clusters in Seoul where certain areas are dedicated towards types of industry.

The Korea Herald has a few examples:

The southwest region – including Guro digital complex – and the northeast cluster will specialize in the manufacture of medical software and hardware.

The southeast cluster will focus on developing convention centers and creating improved digital content, including movies, games and animation.

The creative industry cluster – including design, television, film, animation and publishing – will start from Dongdaemun.

I like the idea of trying to give different parts of Seoul more identity. I think it will be a hard trick to pull off but I am looking forward to seeing it attempted.

The Sejong-ro square development could make taking photos of Gyeongbok Palace and Mount Bukak a less death-defying experience too.

On the downside the plan still includes the 8-story cultural complex in Insa-Dong. This is designed for tour groups that want to get a few trinkets and a quick look at Seoul in the minimum amount of time (i.e other East Asian Tourists). I think most other visitors to Seoul will hate it.
